tonight's reading...

exodus 19:5-6
"Now, therefore if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel."

God doesn't just simply want to save Israel.
He wants them to represent Him to the world
ie: "Kingdom of Priests"

"Together as believers, we do the function of priests. Priests go between God and other people, and so a nation of priests function as mediators between God and the rest of the world.... We are all priests, and because of this we have a responsibility before God to represent Him to the world."

matthew 20:1-16
(parable of the vineyard workers)

"The Kingdom of God does not function on merit and payment, but on grace.... when they see the grace lavished on others, they begin to expect more. So Jesus' basic point is that the kingdom functions on grace, and not merit payment. You are saved by grace, not by your own efforts."
